Fanshawe College is once again welcoming prospective students to explore its St. Thomas-Elgin Regional Campus at the Spring Open House coming up Saturday, March 29th.
In doing so, myFM and has teamed up with our local college to highlight some of the programs available.
While sitting down with Mike Ashby, Coordinator of the Mechanical Engineering Technician Industrial Maintenance program, he explained that the accelerated diploma program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career as an industrial maintenance mechanic.
Audio PlayerThe program is condensed into 45 weeks, beginning in September and concluding in August. Because today’s industrial machines are built with a high degree of sophistication, students will learn the mechanical and electrical knowledge to understand them, both inside and out. They also study computer aided design, welding and mechanics theory.
Ashby emphasizes the hands-on nature of the curriculum and the significant advantage their graduates have when seeking apprenticeships in the industry.
Audio PlayerIn addition to its robust curriculum, the St. Thomas campus offers a close-knit, supportive environment with small class sizes and accessible instructors.
Audio PlayerVisitors to the Open House will have the opportunity to see that first-hand, as well as the chance to tour the on-site machine and industrial shops.
Audio PlayerWith the industry in dire need of skilled industrial maintenance mechanics, this program offers a pathway to a successful career with opportunities across the province and beyond stressed Ashby.
The Fanshawe College Open House runs on March 29th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Thomas-Elgin Regional Campus.
