Premier Doug Ford last week confirmed he will be calling an early provincial election and will make the official call this Wednesday.
Although the election was initially set for June 2026, it has been moved up as Ford has expressed the need for a new mandate to address the challenges of four years under a Donald Trump presidency in the U.S.
The first candidate out of the gate in Elgin-Middlesex-London is PC MPP Rob Flack.
St. Thomas resident Amanda Stark also confirmed to myFM that she will be the Green Party of Ontario candidate in the February vote.
She was nominated earlier this month with Green Party leader Mike Schreiner noting, “Amanda is an outspoken advocate for her community, with a long track record of volunteer service.”
In the last provincial election, there were eight candidates vying to represent the riding at Queen’s Park:
Rob Flack, PC
Andy Kroeker, NDP
Heather Jackson, Liberal
Matt Millar, New Blue Party
Amanda Stark, Green Party
Brigitte Belton, Ontario Party
Dave Plumb, Freedom Party
Malichi Malé, Consensus Ontario
