St. Thomas Police are investigating a fraud case involving a 30-year-old resident who was deceived by scammers posing as Amazon employees.
The victim was originally contacted by someone claiming there was fraudulent activity on their Amazon account.
The scammer then introduced a supposed lawyer, and together used threats to pressure the victim into withdrawing $3,800 in cash. The victim was instructed to deposit the money into a cryptocurrency machine in $900 increments.
After completing the transactions, the scammers attempted to further exploit the victim by requesting gift card purchases.
At this point, the victim ended communication and alerted the police.
