As the growth of our city continues, the St. Thomas Police Service (STPS) shared news this week that they have surpassed last year’s calls for service, responding to 22,650 incidents as of Monday, December 16, 2024.
This is compared to the 22,098 calls that were recorded by this time last year, with 22,796 total calls received by December 31, 2023.
At this pace, notes Corporate Communications Coordinator, Samantha Wakefield, the St. Thomas Police Service is on track for a record-breaking year.
As public safety challenges evolve, the STPS continues to adapt its resources and strategies to meet the rising need for in-person responses and follow-up investigations says Wakefield.
With the number of calls they currently receive daily, the 22,796 threshold will likely be passed by week’s end.
Taking a look back at the past few years, calls for service continue to be on the rise…
- 2023: 22,796 incidents
- 2022: 20,682 incidents
- 2021: 21,924 incidents
- 2020: 22,173 incidents
Wakefield adds that their teams remain dedicated to serving the community, with all STPS members playing a vital role in delivering policing services to St. Thomas.
