The Golden Gloves Provincial Championships, held in early October at Central Park Athletics in Windsor, proved to be an exceptional showcase of St. Thomas talent.
Three local fighters from Championship City Boxing on St. Catharine Street, secured spots on Team Ontario at the Championships, earning the chance to represent the city at Nationals.
Ethan Andersen fought in the semi final bout, winning by unanimous decision in the 51-55kg elite open male division. He earned a silver medal after having to withdraw from the gold medal match due to injury.
Keegan Banfic, boxing as a 65-70kg elite open male also brought home a silver medal, having won 2 out of 3 fights with a lost in the finals.
Noah Sopoco, boxing in the 50-52kg Junior C male division, fought in a make up bout and lost in a close decision after being crowned gold in his weight class.
Ethan and Keegan will now compete at the Elite and U23 National Championships in Sarnia from November 19-23, aiming for Canadian National Team spots.
Noah will fight for his place on the national stage at the Junior, Youth, and U23 Nationals with the date yet to be announced.
