In partnership with Tree Canada and ReForest London, Geerlinks Home Hardware in St. Thomas hosted a special tree planting event at Locke’s Public School this past Friday.
Members of the Grade 1/2 class at Locke’s along with their intermediate buddies, took part in the educational event which saw 5 maple trees planted in the school yard.
They were led by Rachael Jensen, Environmental Education Coordinator with ReForest London. Jensen took the students through the entire tree planting process, incorporating age-specific environmental education each step of the way.
Vice Principal, Erin Broadbent expressed how thankful they were for the opportunity.
Broadbent adds that the tree planting was also a great chance for students to collaborate with one another.
This location was chosen not only to create more shade for the students, but also to encourage the next generation to be aware of their environmental impact and help create a greener future.
Danielle Geerlinks shared the impact that Home Hardware Stores have had on their local communities.
These trees have been planted at schools, community parks, conservation areas, and in spaces that require restoration following wildfires, tornadoes, and other weather-related events.
