Preventing crimes before they can occur is always the best way to keep our communities safe.
That’s the message during Crime Prevention Week running through November 9th.
The St. Thomas Police are using the week to share some important messaging with residents about what they can do to keep their families, neighbourhoods, schools, and workplaces safe from criminal activity.
Corporate Communications Coordinator, Samantha Wakefield shares the focus today.
The guide emphasizes actionable, preventative measures, including:
- Advanced Employee Awareness: Teaching staff to identify and respond to suspicious activity in real-time.
- Upgraded Physical Security: Implementing measures such as enhanced surveillance, improved lighting, and secure product placements.
- Strategic Store Design: Leveraging Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) to create spaces that minimize opportunities for crime.
- Streamlined Reporting Protocols: Encouraging businesses to report incidents swiftly, fostering stronger partnerships with law enforcement.
As we continue to observe Crime Prevention Week 2024 under the theme Awareness in Action: Keeping Ontario Safe Together, the St. Thomas Police Service remains committed to supporting local businesses with resources that promote safety and security.
Retailers are encouraged to review the guide in detail and incorporate its recommendations into their daily operations.
myFM will be sharing the theme each day- so don’t forget to check back tomorrow!
