A shoplifting incident Tuesday morning escalated into a situation where two police officers were assaulted.
Around 10 a.m., St. Thomas Police responded to a Talbot Street store where an individual failed to pay for two bottles of liquor.
Just before 2 p.m. police were notified the individual had returned.
A 33-year-old Muncey – Delaware resident was arrested and taken to police headquarters.
While there, the suspect assaulted a pair of officers, although no injuries were sustained.
The suspect has been charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts of assaulting a peace officer.
The individual was remanded into custody.
