The Thames Valley District School Board is having its finances audited by the Ministry of Education after staff had a nearly 40-thousand-dollar overnight retreat in Toronto last month.
The local board came under fire recently, after a group of its senior members spent more than 38-thousand-dollars on a strategic planning session at the Mariott Hotel in downtown Toronto.
This also comes as the board deals with a 7.6-million-dollar deficit.
School board chair Beth Mai says “The Thames Valley District School Board is pleased that the Ministry of Education is willing to lend their support and conduct an audit of accounts. The Board has every confidence that Interim Director Bill Tucker will share the work that he is leading at the Board’s direction around accountability and transparency to the community as we prioritize student achievement and well-being.”
