Attempts to stop a man on a bicycle early Saturday morning escalated into threats and an assault on a St. Thomas Police officer.
The incident took place on Talbot Street where the officer attempted to stop the man for several traffic offences.
He dropped his bike and fled but was quickly apprehended. The officer again demanded he identify himself but he gave a false name and date of birth.
While the officer attempted to handcuff him he resisted and kept one hand concealed. The officer called for backup.
A physical struggle ensued where he brandished a long metal object and threatened the officer, saying he had a knife and would stab him.
The individual fled the scene again with the officer in pursuit and eventually he was Tasered.
The man was taken into custody and a search of the area uncovered a screwdriver.
He was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, failure to comply with a release order and two Highway Traffic Act offences.
