The Federal and Provincial Governments have announced a new draft agreement that they say will address the key challenges facing the Great Lakes. The “Canada-Ontario Agreement on Great Lakes Water Quality and Ecosystem Health” will organize actions that will protect the water quality in the Great Lakes.
The agreement will move on what the government calls are the key challenges that the Great Lakes are facing like increased wastewater and stormwater management and reducing pollution.
The agreement will create a new focus on road salt and plastic pollution. The agreement will also bring a new focus to Lake Ontario and continue cleaning up polluted communities among others.
The agreement is part of the Provincial Government’s Made in Ontario Environment Plan.
In a statement Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Jeff Yurek says that they are looking forward to their continued partnership with the federal government, other partners and public input to protecting the vital ecosystems.
