On Saturday, May 25th, St. Thomas residents will join Canadians from coast-to-coast by once again lacing up their shoes for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s.
It’s the largest fundraising and awareness event for the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners, who are dedicated to supporting individuals living with dementia and their care partners across Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford counties.
All you have to do to support the cause is walk 14,000 steps to celebrate and honour the people in our region who are currently living with dementia.
Leslie Rand, Director of Development with the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners notes pledges can be collected along the way, with all money raised supporting local dementia programs and services.
The Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners will be hosting 4 walks across Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford counties on Saturday and Rand says St. Thomas is stepping up in a big way to support the society’s goal.
Almost $30,000 has already been raised in St. Thomas alone. And that’s huge for our local organization as over $2 million in fundraising supports is needed locally each year, just in order for the Alzheimer Society to deliver current programs.
Rand notes that while the fundraising side of the day is ever so important, so is the awareness.
As far as what you can expect during the walk on May 27th, Rand explains.
If you can’t make it out day of, Rand adds that you’re still encouraged to take part.
Participants can sign up, create their teams and start fundraising by visiting WalkForAlzheimers.ca.
