Just before Christmas, the Oneida Nation of the Thames Fire Department was the recipient of a $5,000 donation from Enbridge Gas.
Kevin Berube, Senior Advisor, Community and Indigenous Engagement with Enbridge, says it’s all about “equipping the heroes of tomorrow to better protect the communities we live and work in.”
The Safe Community Project Assist supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge operates.
Berube adds they are proud to support and enhance services provided by operations like the Oneida Fire Department.
Oneida Fire Chief Glenn Hill tells myFM what the funds will be used for.
Ontario Fire Marshal Jon Pegg added, it’s important for the province’s fire departments to have access to the right materials to keep their members and the public safe.
Hill stresses it is much-needed support for his firefighters and the community at large.
The initiative is part of Safe Community Project Assist, a program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.
Hill explains the Oneida Fire Department consists of a chief and deputy chief plus 22 volunteers working out of one hall with three trucks covering approximately 25 sq. kilometres.
