A large police presence in a retail store is usually the sign something big is going down. And that was exactly the case last Wednesday when roughly 20 officers from the St. Thomas Police Service stopped by Walmart in the city to host their 3rd annual Shop with a Cop event.
They were paired up with local students spanning from age 7 to 10 and given free-range of the big box store with a $100 gift card in hand shared Samantha Wakefield, Corporate Communications Coordinator with the St. Thomas Police Service.
It was an unique experience for each child involved, with a number of them choosing to give back to those they love as oppose to buying for themselves says Wakefield.
myFM had the opportunity to take in the magical night and even had the chance to speak with some of the participants. And as Wakefield said, many of them focused on giving rather than receiving.
Wakefield says it was an incredible night for all involved, especially the officers who took part.
She adds that it’s also the perfect chance for the kids to ask any questions they may have.
Shop with a Cop was made possible by Doug Tarry Homes, Geerlinks Home Hardware, the St. Thomas Police Services Board and the St. Thomas Police Association.
