A partnership between the YWCA St. Thomas Elgin, Goodwill Industries and ClothingWorks is making sure the most vulnerable in our community don’t go without a coat this winter.
myFM sat down with Melissa Kempf, Communications Manager at the YWCA, who explains what will be taking place this Friday and Saturday.
Also joining us was Carol-Ann McIntyre, Program Coordinator at ClothingWorks, who shares what her organization does for the local community.
McIntyre explains how her previous work with the YWCA St. Thomas Elgin has lead to this amazing and vital initiative for our city.
As mentioned, the Winter Coat and Accessories Giveaway Days will be happening this Friday and Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the YWCA gymnasium at 16 Mary St W.
Those in need of a free winter coat this season are invited stop by on a first come, first serve basis notes McIntyre.
There will be a one coat per person limit, however if guests have a partner, spouse, or children at home, they are welcome to take one coat for them as well. A collection of hats, gloves, scarves and socks will also be available to peruse through.
Kempf explains how the importance of this event, really comes down to making sure everyone’s basic needs are being met.
She adds that the YWCA is so thankful to McIntyre and her team at ClothingWorks for all the support thus far, including all the volunteers who will be spending time on site during the Giveaway Days.
You are reminded that with it being a free service, a small wait time may be expected. You are also asked to bring your own bags as they will not be provided.
