The government of Ontario is dedicating more than $300,000 to support the preparation of young individuals for rewarding and lucrative careers within the dairy industry.
In collaboration with the Dairy Farmers of Ontario, the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus is set to enhance its Dairy Herdsperson Apprenticeship program. This expansion will introduce a hybrid, distance education alternative, catering to students who cannot commit to full-time, in-person studies or are already engaged in farm work across the province.
Attendees will gain knowledge encompassing animal well-being, regular herd upkeep and nourishment, as well as the operation of farm machinery.
myFM spoke with a local dairy farmer, Kevin MacLean, who told us some of the benefits of the dairy indusctry.

This project is funded through the government’s Skills Development Fund, an over $700 million initiative, which supports ground-breaking programs that connect jobseekers with the skills and training they need to find well-paying careers close to home.
