Margeaux calls herself the coffeeshop antihero: She does not drink coffee or enjoy baking, and mornings are not her jam.
She never expected to enter the world of coffee but did anticipate owning a business at some point. An opportunity presented itself when her family decided to move back to Port Stanley, and the shop simultaneously went up on the market – it was kismet!
While coffee and mornings don’t cut it for Margeaux, these things are a conduit for what she does love; hosting a space where friends and family alike can meet to share stories, connect (in some cases reconnect) and enjoy a break from otherwise busy existences, especially as COVID restrictions were starting to lift and reunions were regularly happening in the café.
Harbour Merchant Coffee Co. prides itself on being a safe space for people in the LGBTQIA2S+ to celebrate Pride Month by donating a portion of our beans sales to the Rainbow Optimist Club.
They have rotating flags out front of the shop, representing different countries/movements/groups to show our support – they invoke meaningful conversations.
Margeaux Facts:
Her first job was in grade school, working at a flower stand; a Tiger Shark almost ate her in Thailand; she used to work as a Pepsi Taste Challenge rep. She’s never eaten a fast-food burger, and she used to manage a $15M portfolio in the corporate world before transitioning to small business ownership.
