Emergency crews continue to work this morning following an extensive fire in Aylmer’s downtown core last night. Around 9 p.m. Monday, the Aylmer Fire Department were dispatched to a section of Talbot Street due to a structure fire.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported at this time.
Due to the magnitude of the fire, crews from St. Thomas, Malahide and Central Elgin were called in to assist.
In an update from Aylmer Police around 2:30 a.m., a number of road closures were put in place and it was noted that the fire was still active as crews continued their efforts to extinguish the blaze.
As of 7:45 a.m., John Street reopened to traffic, however Highway 3 (Talbot St East) remains closed from John Street east to Queen Street.
Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
