St. Thomas Police Chief Chris Herridge has announced his retirement.
Herridge started his career as a cadet with the St. Thomas Police on February 26th, 1989. In 2017, he was appointed Acting Chief of Police and officially took over as Chief of the St. Thomas Police Service on January 1st, 2018.
Herridge says there are many factors that contributed to his decision to retire.
But ultimately Herridge says he knew it was time to retire.
He told myFM it’s time to hand over the reins to the service’s leadership team.
While he will no longer be at the helm next spring, Herridge stresses the service’s passion for the community will not diminish and the transition will be a smooth one.
Of utmost importance during his tenure as chief has been the wellbeing of all members of the service.
Herridge initiated many initiatives in his time as chief, one of the latest being the Community Inclusion Committee to help better represent the diverse community served by city police.
His final day as chief will be February 24th, 2023. Marc Roskamp will step in as acting chief in January, and he officially takes over as chief in May.
