Following a wave of break and enters across Elgin and Middlesex Counties, the OPP are putting a warning out to auto dealerships and auto shops to take precautions and safeguard their vehicles and keys.
The OPP’s Elgin Middlesex Community Street Crime Unit note that incidents began on August 8th, with multiple vehicles stolen from dealerships and auto shops in Thames Centre, Central Elgin and at Goodwill’s Used Cars in Aylmer, as myFM reported last week.
Police advise that these incidents have followed a similar pattern where suspects arrive in stolen cars, break into a dealership or shop, steal several sets of keys and then return later to steal additional vehicles.
This has happened a number of times in the past few weeks across Middlesex, Elgin and Perth Counties, in addition to occurrences in London, Aylmer and Waterloo Region.
Members of the Elgin OPP continue to investigate and ask anyone with security surveillance videos of further information to contact them.
