Tomorrow is our country’s 155th birthday and plenty of events have been planned across St. Thomas-Elgin to celebrate!
The Township of Southwold will kick things off tonight with their annual Canada Day celebration taking place at the Fingal Baseball Park beginning at 7:30 p.m. Attendees can take in the music by A&M Sounds, visit Dotsy the Clown, get your face painted and celebrate Canada’s birthday with some cake before fireworks.
The Municipality of Dutton-Dunwich have an all-day event planned for Sons of Scotland Park , with the Fire Department Breakfast at 8 a.m. and a packed line up of activities before the fireworks display at dusk. It’s worth noting that the location of the fireworks show has changed from years past, and will be set off from the Wallacetown Fairgrounds.
Belmont residents will make their way to Don Yeck Park following the annual Decorated Bicycle Parade taking place at 11:30 a.m. From noon until 2 p.m., a $2 hot dog lunch, cake and face painting will be available at the pavilion. Fireworks at dusk!
In Port Burwell, the Canada Day Parade kicks off at the Royal Canadian Legion beginning at 11:30 a.m. A free BBQ with cake will be available at the Port Burwell library gazebo, with a Harvard formation flyover taking place at noon. Throughout the afternoon, enjoy a number of activities including tours of the lighthouse, horse-drawn carriage rides, games and more.
Canada Day celebrations in West Elgin will take place at Miller Park in West Lorne. Opening ceremonies get underway at 2:30 p.m. at the Pavilion, with a number of family friendly activities running until 6 p.m. Food will then be available in the park beginning at 6 p.m., along with live entertainment put on by local band Exit 137. Fireworks at dusk!
St. Thomas will have a little bit more going on than initially expected thanks to the local Kinsmen. Live music, food, and a beer garden will be available in Pinafore Park beginning at 4 p.m., before fireworks at dusk.
Canada Day fireworks return to Aylmer, however that is the extent of the local celebration. Taking place at the East Elgin Community Complex, with gates opening at 8 p.m. The Kinsmen Club of Aylmer will be collecting donations from the community in an effort to keep the tradition going next year.
