You’ve heard about paving over paradise.
But now, a move is afoot to depave paradise, one parking spot and a square metre of concrete at a time.
It began Thursday in St. Thomas with a portion of the Horton Market parking lot being dug up to be replaced by green space.
Cole Taylor with the London Environmental Network explains the work underway.
You might call it a move to get dirty. All part of an effort to reclaim the soil and turn it into living green space.
Taylor paints a picture of what the new green space will look like at the market.
Depave Paradise, a project of Green Communities Canada, is now in 28 communities across Canada with more than 14,500 square metres of concrete now converted back to green space, resulting in a dramatic change to the streetscape.
The transition to green at the Horton Market continues Saturday right after the market closes with live music from 2 until 4 p.m.
