While their doors may have closed, ending an over 25 year relationship with United Way, GKN Sinter Metals in St. Thomas was honored earlier this month with a ChangeMakers Award.
The award given to GKN, is presented annually to workplaces and volunteers who go above and beyond to make the United Way Campaign a local success.
For over 25 years, staff at GKN have hosted a workplace campaign in support of United Way, that included an employee and retiree lunch and bake sale.
Jennepher Cahill, Director of Resource Development with United Way Elgin Middlesex notes that the fundraiser continues to inspire them.
Employees maintain above a 50% participation rate in each campaign and raise considerable funds each year for local programs and services, proving how important community is adds Cahill.
Although the GKN Sinter plant has since closed down, it was has been a key part of the St. Thomas community and the United Way Campaign, making them the perfect recipient of the ChangeMakers Lifetime Achievement Award.
