Later this summer, the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority will open its first conservation area in Southwold Township on what is being described as a “breathtaking property.”
The 46-acre forest habitat, located at the end of Talbot Grove Lane in Talbotville, is to be known as Deer Ridge Conservation Area.
The land was donated by the Gill Family and Southwold Mayor Grant Jones says the property offers scenic views of Dodd Creek, woodlands and wetlands, all part of the Middlemarch Forest Complex.
Ted Gill calls it a “breathtaking property,” and he and his family have finalized the donation of land to the Kettle Creek Conservation Area.
Alison Warwick, KCCA board chair says the gift ensures a significant stand of forest is protected.
As a condition of the donation, the conservation authority will maintain the property in perpetuity.
Warwick explains the next few months will be spent developing a management plan.
The Kettle Creek Environmental Trust is accepting donations to cover expenses related to wetland restoration and tree planting.
