There was positive financial news last week for two long-term care facilities in St. Thomas.
Caressant Care Bonnie Place and Mary Bucke are to receive provincial funding for additional beds and upgrades to existing beds, explains Stuart Oakley, Caressant Care’s communications and marketing manager.
The Bonnie Place facility will get 44 new beds and upgrades to 116 while at the Mary Bucke home, 36 new beds will be added with 60 beds upgraded.
Oakley explains it is early in the process and no design work has yet been started.
The province has indicated it will build more than 30,000 new long-term care beds by 2028 and upgrade another 28,000.
To help address the lengthy waitlist for long-term care beds, the province has over 24,000 new and 19,000 upgraded beds in the development process.
Oakley advises this will help alleviate a critical bed shortage in the former Southwest Local Health Integration Network.
In addition, Oneida Long-Term Care Home in Southwold will receive up to $558,000 for increased staffing.
