With the situation in Ukraine evolving hourly, one St. Thomas resident is following the news with particular concern.
City councillor Steve Peters has relatives in the western part of the country and has been messaging them on a regular basis for updates.
Peters is flying a Ukrainian flag at his home, and notes the special bond between the two countries.
Peters adds, that includes the City of St. Thomas, where there was an influx of Ukrainians in the 1950s.
One of their construction projects was a church they could call their own, as Peters explains.
Peters advises the City of St. Thomas actually has a roadway named Ukrainian Street, linking Woodworth Avenue and Nelson Street.
