Today 94.1 myFM and Fanshawe College St. Thomas Elgin Regional Campus are shining a light on some of the amazing teachers we have in our community with our Excellent Educators Day.
For Tim Gordon, a music teacher at Central Elgin Collegiate Institute, it was a decision made at Western University that put him on the education path rather than graduating and stepping out as a performing musician.
While he credits teachers from his days in school as influences on his career choice, Gordon says enjoyment for him in the classroom today is sharing his passion for music with his students.
Over his teaching career, Gordon suggests his biggest challenge is keeping the course fresh and interesting for students.
That, in turn, challenges him to take stock of what is and isn’t working for him.
Gordon has an interesting piece of advice for young people who may be considering a career in teaching.
Passion is first and foremost, however, being able to adapt to new ideas and concepts and not just follow what has been done in the past.
