This morning (Wednesday) at St. Thomas city hall and in ceremonies across Elgin county, the pride flag was raised in honour of Pride Week, which runs through Sunday. It is also an opportunity to celebrate inclusiveness in the city and county. St. Thomas Mayor Joe Preston urged all residents of the city to take pride in our diversity.
Preston added we should all take pride in our identities and we should never feel we must hide who we are at work, school or within our families and communities.
An hour later in front of the Elgin Heritage Centre, Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Jeff Yurek called it a day to celebrate a community within our community.
Elgin county warden Dave Mennill added, flying the flag is a way of showing everyone is welcome in Elgin County.
