This week is Paramedic Services Week and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the role paramedics play in keeping communities across Ontario safe has never been more apparent. The week is held each year to give residents in the province an opportunity to recognize the work and dedication of paramedics.
Gordon Mathers, Superintendent at Medavie EMS Elgin says the campaign typically involves opening up their facilities to the public but this year they have moved to the online approach by sharing special messages and tips on their social media pages.
Mathers says it’s nice to recognize the hard work of all of their paramedics with a special week, but the local community has been showing an out pouring of support for the past couple months now.
Mathers adds that the theme for this years Paramedic Services Week is Paramedics on the Front Line which helps to highlight the work they are doing as they are on the frontline through all of this, but just because there is a global pandemic, doesn’t mean other emergencies such as heart attacks and car accidents stop occurring.
