The City held a soft opening of the artificial turf field at 1Password Park over the last couple of days. Minor football games were played on the CFL sized field on Sunday and soccer practices were held under the lights on Monday night.
This is the first public play at the Burwell Road north facility. The project has seen substantial delays due to weather as the field house, splash pad, playgrounds and basketball courts were planned to be ready for the fall.
Director of Parks and Recreation Ross Tucker says that while the rest of the facility is still closed, the artificial field was safe to allow play.
Tucker says that the artificial field will remain open until mid-November with the opening of the full facility planned for the Spring of next year.
The $10.7 million facility will also feature 36 different sized soccer fields, basketball courts, a splash pad, playgrounds, walking trails and more.
