The Port Bruce bridge replacement project will be receiving $2.5 million from the Federal Government. Minister of Rural Economic Development Bernadette Jordan announced the funding on Tuesday. The funding through the “Investing in Canada” infrastructure plan is being welcomed by Elgin County Warden Duncan McPhail as the collapse of the bridge has made it hard for council to plan out priority projects.
The bridge collapsed in February of last year and has been causing problems for the County ever since. Once the new bridge is constructed there will be a permanent access over Catfish Creek and also help in a safer travel option for residents and visitors.
This Federal funding is in addition to the more than $1.6 million in Provincial funding that was announced earlier this summer.
