A 29-year-old St. Thomas resident is facing serious charges following a violent assault at a south-end apartment building over the weekend.
Police were called to the hospital Sunday, April 13, after a victim reported being attacked the night before while checking on the wellbeing of a neighbour. According to St. Thomas police, the victim was met with “brute force” and struck with a hammer, sustaining serious injuries that required medical treatment.
The accused was identified and charged with aggravated assault.
A warrant was issued, and officers arrested the individual around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. A search of their apartment led to the recovery of the hammer used in the assault, along with a conductive energy weapon.
The suspect now faces an additional charge of unauthorized possession of a weapon.
They were taken to police headquarters for processing and held for a court appearance.
