A 28-year-old St. Thomas resident is facing multiple charges after police responded to a disturbance at a north-end apartment building late Saturday night.
Officers were called to the scene around 10:30 p.m. after several 911 callers reported someone being assaulted in the hallway. When police arrived, they located the individuals involved and determined that a neighbour had been assaulted.
While attempting to lay charges, police say the accused became combative, physically assaulting an officer and threatening their well-being. The individual was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.
While being processed, the accused allegedly escalated the situation—spitting in an officer’s face and continuing to issue threats. Police say the individual also damaged the phone and room used to speak with their lawyer.
The individual is now facing eight charges, including assault, three counts of assaulting police, two counts of uttering threats, mischief, and causing a disturbance. They were held in custody for a court appearance.
