
A member of the Aylmer Police Service has been nominated for a Police Services Hero of the Year Award.
Steven Long has been a police officer for 22 years, initially with the Halton Regional Police Service.
Long is being recognized for going above and beyond to serve the Aylmer community, always on the lookout for things like open doors – an invitation to criminal activity – while on patrol.
The Police Services Hero of the Year Awards is administered by the Police Association of Ontario whereby the public is invited to nominate their heroes—those who exemplify bravery, kindness, and commitment — who are dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of Ontarians.

Long’s commitment to service saw him travel to Ukraine through the RCMP.
“I was the first Halton police officer to be selected for an international deployment.
His connection to Ukraine didn’t stop there.
Their efforts were instrumental in providing much-needed support to those affected by the conflict.
Audio PlayerRegardless of whether he receives recognition as a recipient of a Police Services Hero of the Year Award, Long already has been rewarded for his efforts in Ukraine.

But he has his eyes set on a destination a whole lot closer.
