A group of teens are facing the consequences of their actions after a small fire was set under the John Street North bridge in Aylmer last Sunday.
Aylmer Police say the incident occurred around 7 p.m., when several youths reportedly created a homemade incendiary device using firecrackers, lighters, and a pop bottle. Once ignited, the device exploded, sparking a minor fire in the area.
Thanks to a witness, investigators were able to trace the teens to a local store where the materials had been purchased shortly before the fire. Four male youths—aged 14, 15, 15, and 17—were later identified.
All four teens have been referred to a formal diversion program under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will complete community service hours through the Salvation Army.
