
A 58-year-old St. Thomas resident is out $250 after falling victim to an online puppy scam.
According to police, the victim responded to a Facebook advertisement for a puppy and was asked to send Apple gift cards as a deposit.
Once the scammer received the barcodes, they vanished from the platform, and the advertisement was removed.
As a result, the victim was unable to provide police with any investigative leads as to the identity of the scammer.
