For the fifth straight provincial election, Elgin-Middlesex-London is painted PC blue.
Thursday evening, Rob Flack was re-elected with an overwhelming majority.
In fact, with a greater cushion than in 2022.
Flack defeated Liberal candidate Doug Mactavish by more than 16,000 votes.
He stressed, however, you never take anything for granted.
It comes down to door-knocking, admitted MPP-elect Flack.
This time around, that came down to more than 14,000 doors.
As he fielded questions, Flack stressed the early election call was all about protecting Ontario.
He said there is no doubt the province is under attack from U.S. President Donald Trump.
He added the threatened tariffs make no sense and will only result in food inflation in both Canada and the U.S.
With the looming threat of trade tariffs, Flack was asked shortly after his victory speech what impact that might have on the PowerCo EV gigafactory due to begin production in St. Thomas in 2027.
Flack is adamant, “It’s going to get done.”
Flack added in addition to the threat of tariffs, there is a pressing need to invest in infrastructure like schools, hospitals and roads.
Flack had no indication when the swearing-in ceremony would take place at Queen’s Park.
As to again being a member of the Doug Ford cabinet Flack made it clear, “That is always the prerogative of the Premier and I am happy to serve wherever. But I will always serve Elgin-Middlesex-London first and foremost.
