
New figures from Statistics Canada reveal that the unemployment rate in the London area fell slightly in January, as the region experienced significant job growth.
The jobless rate for the London region, which includes St. Thomas, Strathroy, and parts of Elgin and Middlesex counties, stood at 7.0% in January, a small decrease from December’s 7.1%.
This marks the highest local unemployment rate since August 2016, when it was 7.3%.
Overall, the region saw an increase of 2,400 jobs in January alone, bringing the total number of jobs added since November 2024 to 5,800.
