A 44-year-old St. Thomas resident is facing multiple charges following a downtown altercation early Wednesday morning.
Police were called to the area of Princess Avenue and Talbot Street around 1:20 a.m. to address a disturbance involving an unwanted individual who had got in an altercation.
It was then discovered the person was wanted on an outstanding warrant with the London Police Service.
When officers attempted to arrest the individual, they resisted, allegedly kicking and spitting at police. After being transported to police headquarters, a search revealed quantities of opioids, methamphetamine, and unmarked cigarettes.
The individual is now charged with resisting a peace officer, two counts of assaulting a peace officer, possession of a Schedule I substance (opioid), possession of a Schedule I substance (methamphetamine), and possession of unmarked cigarettes.
No injuries were reported, and the accused was released on an appearance notice.
