Nearly five years following the announcement that a new elementary school would be coming to Belmont, moves are being made for the official naming.
The Thames Valley District School Board announced on Tuesday that it is seeking name recommendations for the New Belmont Public School, as well schools in Lucan, Southeast London and West London.
The submission form is open to anyone, with a deadline set for January 24, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.
However, submissions cannot include the names of individuals or families and must adhere to criteria reflecting local Indigenous history and traditions, the area or street where the school is located, or values and principles.
Following the submission phase, a Naming Selection Committee will review the suggestions and recommend three options per school. Trustees will then evaluate these options at an upcoming board meeting and once approved, school communities will vote to determine the final names.
For more information or to submit your suggestion, visit the TVDSB Public Input webpage before the deadline.
