A 22-year-old Woodstock man faces two Highway Traffic Act charges after a commercial vehicle struck and destroyed a pedestrian crossing signal at the intersection of Talbot and John Streets in Aylmer.
The incident occurred at 9:45 a.m. on January 3rd, when the truck was making a prohibited right turn from John Street onto Talbot Street. During the turn, the trailer clipped the pedestrian crossing post, completely destroying it.
The driver continued on, but the collision was witnessed by a town employee who followed the vehicle and contacted police.
Officers were able to stop the truck on the west end of town.
The driver was charged with failing to report an accident and disobeying a traffic sign. Both charges were issued via provincial offense notice.
Police note the damage to the crossing signal is estimated at $5,000.
