As 2024 comes to a close, the St. Thomas Fire Department is looking back on its busiest year on record, with nearly 350 more calls than in 2023.
The department responded to a variety of emergencies, including fires, medical calls, water and ice rescues, vehicle accidents, gas leaks, and carbon monoxide incidents.
This year also saw exciting changes, including the addition of a new fire truck and the appointment of Deputy Chief, Jeff Topliffe.
In addition to the record breaks calls they responded to, the department actively engaged with the community by participating in local events, conducting fire safety education in schools, and providing fire extinguisher training for businesses.
Fire prevention efforts included running public awareness campaigns, expanding their social media outreach, completing hundreds of fire inspections, and investigating numerous fires.
As they gear up for 2025, the St. Thomas Fire Department expressed gratitude for the community’s support and their commitment to keeping St. Thomas safe.
