An Aylmer resident has fallen victim to an online cryptocurrency scam, resulting in a nearly $200,000 loss.
The fraud began when the individual discovered an alleged investment company on X (formerly Twitter) and began corresponding with representatives.
Over the summer, the victim sent multiple transactions via cryptocurrency accounts. Despite growing suspicions, the funds were already unrecoverable by the time the scam was realized.
The Aylmer Police Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating the case, with residents urged to remain vigilant when dealing with online transactions.
They also stress that if in doubt, contact police before making any transactions.
