The annual Festive RIDE campaign kicked off across the province back on November 21st and members of the St. Thomas Police have been doing their part to ensure we all stay safe on our roads.
This annual initiative is aimed at reducing impaired driving during the holiday season, with a goal of keeping roads safe by detecting and deterring drivers under the influence or alcohol or drugs.
As we head into the hustle and bustle of this week, Corporate Communications Coordinator, Samantha Wakefield reminds drivers that they will be out.
For those who haven’t gone through a local RIDE program, Wakefield explains how it might work.
And while the risks alone should be enough to deter drivers from getting behind the wheel impaired, here’s what you could face if caught.
Police reminds drivers that no amount of alcohol or drugs is safe when driving. Plan ahead by using a designated driver, rideshare service or taxi. Look out for friends and family- if someone shouldn’t be driving, step in to help them find a safe way home.
Wakefield stresses that the St. Thomas Police Service wants everyone to celebrate safely this holiday season and make it home to their loved ones. Together, we can ensure this season is remembered for good times, not tragedies.
If you suspect an impaired driver, make that lifesaving call and dial 9-1-1.
