Two weeks into the campaign, and Christmas Care has over 500 registrations so far, around the same number as previous years.
Donations continue to stream in, and firefighters will be collecting food and funds at the Santa Claus Parade on Saturday night.
All food donations will be delivered to Christmas Care at Memorial Arena.
Any food left after the campaign will be donated to area food banks including the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank.
Richard Auckland with Christmas Care notes the organization has moved away from canned soups and they prefer packages of dried soup which result in more servings and are lighter inside the hamper.
Monetary donations allow for the purchase of food items they need throughout the campaign.
He adds, having a flat of canned vegetables is easier at their end for sorting and putting into hampers.
“And if we buy it, because we are buying in bulk, we sometimes get a better price.”
Registration runs until Dec. 10 at Memorial Arena.
