The Horseshoe J Dude Ranch located on Erin Line just west of Fingal has been a horse lover’s destination for close to 70 years. Known for their summer camps, trail rides and lessons, owner Sue Stiles and her staff at the Horseshoe J can customize a program to meet individual or group needs.
She explains, “We do riding clubs, we do birthday parties, hourly trail riding and fun family events. The ranch is currently starting to grow with more programs.”
The ranch offers a unique outing for the whole family, year round with with a large indoor riding arena.
It is the ideal break from city life.
Stiles explains the camp is about to get even busier.
“We’ve had up to 60 horses here at one time and we’re at 35 right now.
“It’s growing, and as far as programs, I have a young family that is coming in to help run the ranch and they’ve got some pretty big ideas for it.”
For Stiles, the time has come to hand over the reins to new operators as she prepares for retirement sometime in the future. They will carry on the legacy created in the community.
Jen and Mark Van Troost and their family are easing into the saddle and we asked Jen about the future.
“Mark and I, we had this vision for a place where people could go to revive the lost ways.
“Our company name is Revival Farms. We want to bring back the traditional skills and wilderness survival, especially for kids so they can teach future generations.
“So, that is where it started.”
The Horseshoe J Dude Ranch offers pony and horse clubs for children ages four and up. These clubs run for eight weeks in the spring, fall, and winter.
During the warmer months, the idea is to try to be outdoors enjoying nature as much as possible. During the colder months, the indoor riding facility is used with a warm room overlooking the arena for parents to watch.
They also offer group packages for schools, family reunions, overnight stays, and more.
