This past Saturday (Sept 14), Dan Patterson Conservation Area received an upgrade as volunteers from TD Tree Days and Kettle Creek Conservation Authority (KCCA) planted roughly 300 trees and shrubs to naturalize an area adjacent to Kettle Creek.
Over 50 local volunteers from the St. Thomas area took part, planting species such as red maple, bur oak, eastern redbud, nannyberry, red oak, and downy serviceberry.
Betsy McClure, KCCA’s Stewardship Program Supervisor, highlighted the organization’s long-standing support for TD Tree Days, saying- “KCCA plants an average of 50,000 trees per year, and TD Tree Days is a great way of engaging our local community in the restoration and protection of natural habitats in our watershed.”
This year, TD partnered with 75 organizations across Canada, planting over 30,000 trees and shrubs as part of its TD Ready Commitment.
Since 2010, volunteers have planted more than 520,000 trees through the program, helping to enhance green spaces in local communities.
