The City of St. Thomas has proclaimed September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, honouring the thousands of children and their families across Canada who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
It was marked with a flag raising ceremony Monday morning, where Mayor Joe Preston received assistance from childhood cancer warrior Benjamin. He raised the flag to the top of the pole, which will fly high through September 22nd.
The Jumbo monument will also glow gold this week as a gold ribbon is the internationally recognized awareness symbol for all forms of childhood cancer.
Childhood cancer is the number one cause of death by disease of Canadian Children and this month is used as a time to take notice and raise awareness about the reality of childhood cancer, and to emphasize the importance of research.
Elgin County held its flag raising ceremony back on September 10th, also proclaiming September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
