Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon is applauding both Air Canada and its pilots union for reaching a deal and averting a work stoppage.
Air Canada announced the deal just after midnight, avoiding a strike or lockout that would have disrupted travel for hundreds of thousands of passengers.
MacKinnon says the airline and its pilots approached negotiations with “seriousness and a resolve to get a deal,” thanking both sides and federal mediators.
The airline says flights will continue as normal while union members vote on the tentative four-year contract.
