A major shakeup of Ontario’s alcohol marketplace starts today with convenience stores now selling booze.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario says it has granted 42-hundred licences to stores across the province.
They will be allowed to sell alcohol from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Twenty per cent of the beer, cider and premixed cocktails on the shelves and 10 per cent of the wine must be from small Ontario producers.
A number of convenience stores across St. Thomas-Elgin have been granted a licence, with sales already underway.
At Circle K on Talbot Street, 8 customers had purchased alcohol before 11 a.m. Thursday.
